Lets Do Tongues
Hebden and Reid`s pared down to punk-length tunes resonate in my ears.
This is what I hear hear..........
Laydeeeez and gendlemuuuun, first a word from our sponsor;
"Remember peoples, the western worlds hegemonic ownership and reliance on the visual aid, the image and the holy effigy ? Our world is filled to the brim with constant eye-candy multiples flooding our mind to supadistraction. Within the music industry the image is more important than the song. Iconic frames are loaded with meanings, associations, spin-off products and THE Real, Authentic TRUTH lives and breathes in internetutubemyspacetextmessagedvd technicolourscreen screaming buzzsawing 24-7 reality"
Doesnt it fucking just ?
Listen to your favourite album, any album, what do you SEE ? Images, places, scenes, faces, dark, fat, light, food, booze, drugs, bugs ? Images and associations with 21st century obsessing lifestyle options, choices made available to us to be cool, to outwardly SHOW our status.
We wear our music on our sleeves, our tattoos, our beltbuckles, our shirts, our flatpacked stomachguts, our wallets burp or groan out of hunger or credit card overpayment. On this day, this neighbourhood, this mall, this place of workgrind, this redlight district, this bar, this shithouse, this bed, this place of orgasm, this LIFE.
Could you still enjoy and hear the album if you had no vision?
If you were born sightless ?
What would you see when you listen ?
HHmmmmm, this album is of as found and created sounds, percussive timing that aint four to the floor product placed industry stockingfiller stomp. Cant tick that box. But I find it is subtle, unequal, not middle of the road, not familiar, not NICE (I hate that word), verging on an uncomfortable dialect, a different slang language ? Maybe.
Certainly outsideleft of the ordinary, not easy to pick up on, not instantly immediately immediate. I like that. Difficult. Like my first minor stabs at hitting that chord of E major. But, as if in defiance of my Allah`s-own logic, I start to hear tunes that peek out from the shade of a slewed plinking crashsplash dotdot dash. Yeah, I go on and take shelter in unfamiliar jarring, hammering drum, spacetalkingghosts. I am smiling now my toes are tapping to glassy clatter rythmchimes stutter. I trick or treat my ears to that sharpharpy basssdrumbass thunder.
HHmmmmm. Familiar.
Like my strumming of that chord of E major.
Lets do Tongues.
