NO MORE BUSH TOUR 2008 - Thurston Moore, Mike Watt, Byron Coley, Roxie Powell, Charles Plymell and many more....

Five years ago, in a time of woe for the underground, the country and the world, the members of the Ecstatic Yod Collective organized a tour called More Hair Less Bush. Including a variety of musicians and writers, the tour brought the flame of hope to cities cast into darkness by the hideous secretions of the Bush Twins.
Now, in 2008, as we prepare to enjoy thelong-promised fruits of regime change, we felt it was time to bring our show on the road again. But this time, rather than offering balm and apologies to the psychically wounded, we would like to celebrate the pre-dawn of a new day -- a day when the word "cheney" is once more an empty phrase we use to terrify youngsters.
To this end, we have assembled a revolving cast of musicians and writers, all of whom honk the horn of freedom with both hands. We trust it will be a gas.
Trinkets will be available at all shows. Tour schedule and bios follow. Support is being provided by Ecstatic Peace Records & Arthur Magazine.
Info/photos/etc: glasseye@yod.com

For Real : The Tom Heyman Interview

Tom Heyman is a folk singer with a past, a session man with credits on a slew of critical releases including Alejandro Escovedo, Chuck Prophet, John Vanderslice, The Court and Spark, Kathleen Haskard and Paula Frazier. He has gone on and made two solo albums, to add to the many with previous bands he has made. Deliver Me, his latest album, has contributions from members of American Music Club, Motherhips and Wilco, as well as the Fender Blender, Chuck Prophet. Tom and I chatted about his past, present and all things in between. We got first class tickets for the sonic town of Geeksville and returned intact, wiser and smiling.

"This release is made up of a collection of tunes that I worked on over a year or so and form my first EP. I wanted to explore the themes that inspired the authors of the songs titles; Baraka, Kerouac, Sartre and Fanon. Its all recorded by myself, played by me on basses & percussion with a few special guests; Gareth Pope and Tim Hook add guitars and some vocals by Mia & Dana Djundi on flute. Along with a few choice samples of Kerouac."

Scroobius Pip : Not Just Another Phase

Poet, spoken word performer and beard lover Scroobius Pip took his name from his bastard phonetic twin, who was bought to life in the birthing pool-mind as a character and title of an unfinished Edward Lear poem, The Scroobious Pip. Lear`s poem is essentially about confusion, identity and a discovery of ones self. With some humour Lear describes how Pip is lost in the jungle, unsure of who and what the fuck he is. So Pip hangs out with the insects, the lions, fish, the whole animal family, searching, searching, searching for the answer to the deeply profound question; who and what am I?

The Benzedrine Highway Interview with Charles Plymell

"He met up with Jimmy Jammy and some other guys who hung out in a coupla places and they had a wild time. CP was always pretty cool. I met one guy from then, and even bought a car from him. His name was Johnny Mayes and he was older. I guess what these guys had in common was various forms of uppers and downers. Basically anything they could find. For years and years Bob Branaman mostly, but later Charley, took them continuously it seemed. They drank Cosanyl cough syrup. Bob B. and often Charley walked around with a paper bag with a couple of dark glass bottles of Cosanyl which they bought at any drug store - always changing stores." Poet Roxie Powell on close friend Charley Plymell

On the eve of the release of a new Danny and Dusty album, Cast Iron Soul on Blue Rose Records, I caught up with the enduring twosome (A.K.A Dan Stuart and Steve Wynn), who were happy to talk about their revitalised songwriting partnership, taking up the reins from The Lost Weekend way back in 1985. Chris Cacavas and Stephen McCarthy are still around on the scene, and joined Danny and Dusty for the recording sessions again, along with Johnny Hott and Bob Rupe. JD Foster produced

Chuck Prophet : The Soap or Water Interview

Having left a trail of sparks from his left hand with Green on Red and ploughed a determined solo path that has given birth to some of the best solo albums of the decade, Chuck has had a busy last year. He has been in demand as producer (Kathleen Haskard and Kelly Willis to name two), launched his label, (((belle sound))), with its first non-Prophet related release; Fruitvale by Sonny Smith, picked up the reins of the killer band Green on Red with Dan Stuart, Jack Waterson, Chris Cacavas and Jim Bogios with a reconquest tour that reminded us of how the barbed wire country rock book was written. He also signed a deal to publish a book on the schizo-dynamics that musicians juggle with on an hourly basis whilst in tour-motion, played on various albums including Aiden Hawkens solo album, fitted in songwriting sessions with Alejandro Escovedo and recorded the his new opus Soap And Water. The demand for Chuck`s involvement in many different projects is as high as ever.
On Soap And Water Chuck lets his fearless yet subtle mixing of musical styles and mastery of the fucked-up ballad par excellence shine. He successfully disproves the old adage by working with choir of children who sing backing vocals on the album. His cool legend status as singer/songwriter with a back cataloge that sparkles and shimmers out of the speakers like the gold in a panhandlers calloused and blistered whisky-glass hand precedes him by some distance.
